About this Page
MomiasChinchorro.com started in 2004 as a result of the personal initiative of the anthropologist, Bernardo Arriaza. Its aim is to promote the Chinchorro Culture through the internet. At that time, the information available on the Chinchorro Culture on the internet was quite limited and scattered. MomiasChinchorro.com came about to fulfill the need for first-hand, quality information, centralized and in English. Over the years, MomiasChinchorro.com became a standard reference for the Chinchorro Culture and its mummies on the internet and to date has been visited by 60,000 people.
In 2009 MomiasChinchorro.com was modernized, exploiting the new interactive technology currently available (Web 2.0, social networks, etc.). MomiasChinchorro.com widened its domain to .cl, the old static page changed into a portal that not only combines information, but also serves as a nexus between people with common interests such as archaeology, history, special interest tourism, etc. The new versions 1.5 and 2.0 of MomiasChinchorro.com/.cl will be set up thanks to financing from the National Council for Culture and the Arts, through the FONDART 2009 awards.
